Halloween is fast approaching. While it is, little girls are also hoping to wear a popular costume, the fairy costume. Undoubtedly, the fairy costume tops the list of any Halloween costume ideas and it's all because of Disney's cartoons', Tinkerbell and the Barbie Doll fairies.
Dance Class Uniforms to Fairy Costumes
A fairy costume pattern is not difficult to create and just a few supplies are necessary. It's good news though if your daughter is attending ballet or jazz and other dance classes. That way, you already have a starting point for your fairy costume such as the leotard, tights and dance shoes or ballet slippers.
To come up with a fairy costume pattern, you should have some pieces of cardboard. You can also cut from cereal boxes or just find any cardboard in your house. Then get the distance from your daughter's waist to her knee. Have an extra inch allowance at the top so you can easily sew the waistband.
Fairy Costume Guide
Flower petals and leaves are basically required for a fairy costume. Cut the flower petals in dimensional proportions of 6 X 12. Then, cut the bottom in a curved shape that's just the same as a flower petal. The leaves are to be embellished with leaves, so start cutting it into 4 X 8. For the leaf pattern, make sure the bottom part looks natural like how it looks on the plant.
Using a fabric pencil or pen, trace the petal image on two complimentary colors which will make an attractive floral appearance. But the fabric does not have to be cut at this time. Trace the flower petal across the length of the green fabric and repeat this step.
When everythings all traced, take the lower edges off of the three pieces of material. The finished patterns consist of three pieces of fabric with one straight edge and one edge made for petal or leaf.
Each pieces of fabric should be layered while off-setting the flower petals. At the top baseline of the petals, along the waistline of the skirt, sew a thin line. On the waistline, you should place a thick piece of elastic. To hold it, utilize a straight pin. Fold up the top of the skirt so the elastic can be covered. Bring down the waist of the skirt while sewing the top waistband. Lay down the elastic whether it's not sewn into the waistband. Utilizing a Velcro, close the top of the waistband. While letting you child wear the costume, tie the elastic.
Embellish Your Little Girl's Fairy Costume
Your fairy costume should be embellished with a magic wand, floral headpiece and tulle wings. Whatever you choose to embellish, your child will surely have a smile on your face as she is about to fly as a fairy.
